Suicide Awareness Workshop

This training provides a foundational understanding of suicide by exploring feelings around the topic, appropriate language to use when discussing suicide, and how stigma impacts individuals and communities. It includes a review of key statistics and data to highlight the scope of the issue while addressing common myths and facts to challenge misconceptions.

Suicide Awareness Workshop

This training focuses on understanding suicide as a public health issue, equipping participants with knowledge about risk factors, warning signs, and protective factors. Through active listening skills and brief interventions like Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) questions, attendees learn practical strategies to support someone in distress and connect them to resources, services, and supports.

Training 1 Summary: Comprehensive Suicide Intervention Workshop – Suicide Assessment

In our first training, we focused on the fundamentals of suicide assessment, exploring the Zero Suicide framework and key screening tools such as the C-SSRS and P-4. We also introduced the Suicide Triage Form, guiding participants through risk factors, warning signs, and protective elements that help inform the next steps in intervention. A major emphasis was placed on the critical distinction between self-harm and suicidal intent, highlighting how the way we ask questions—“Do you want to kill yourself?” vs. “Do you want to hurt yourself?”—affects our understanding of risk. This training laid the foundation for conducting a thorough suicide assessment and identifying individuals in need of immediate intervention. We appreciate the support of the Oceanside Community Foundation in making this training possible.
